About Frontier Forum on Underground Space
Underground space, as a vital national territorial resource, provides strong support for alleviating the conflicts of urban land use, promoting green and low-carbon development, and enhancing the comprehensive carrying capacity of modern cities. It is also a crucial development path for improving urban functionalities and expanding national territorial space utilization of modern cities.
Over the past several decades, remarkable accomplishments in the construction, operation, maintenance, and management of underground space have been achieved all around the world, such as Montreal’s Underground City, the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel in Tokyo, Japan, and many others. With the vigorous development of urban infrastructure and the continuous expansion of human living spaces to polar regions and extraterrestrial areas, new problems and challenges have emerged in the construction, operation, maintenance, and management of underground space. To promote the development of underground space industry and celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Underground Space Journal, the "2026 Frontier Forum on Underground Space" will be held in Shanghai from June 6 to 8, 2026.
With the theme of "Frontier Forum on Underground Space", the forum aims to build an academic and technical platform, share excellent engineering experience and scientific research achievements, and further improve the level of construction, operation, maintenance, and management of underground space in China. The conference sincerely invites experts, scholars, engineering and technical personnel, and postgraduates in this field to attend and share ideas.
